New Year Resolutions that can help you in your Recovery
The end of 2021 is almost upon us and it brings with it the excitement of a New Year. 2021 was definitely a roller coster ride for all us. However, 2022 could be the year we leave Covid-19 behind and return to normalcy as a society. We are all looking forward to returning back to our offices, spending more times with our relatives and travelling without the scare of catching a deadly disease. Overall, we hope that in 2022 life will go back to the way it was before COVID.
For those in recovery, it is the start of another chapter in their lives. Another journey that they can embark on. One in which they can scale the heights of their professional lives while exceeding or meeting their personal goals. For those going through a difficult time or just looking for some motivation or ways to make it their best year, we list some ideas curated by our team. If you find this helpful, consider sharing it with your group of friends or family.
No Alcohol or Drugs
Alcohol and Drugs may give you a high but it comes at a price. It takes a heavy toll on the body and the mind. Mental health conditions such as Depression, Anxiety, Psychosis, Hallucinations, Schizophrenia and damage to organs like Liver, Kidneys, Lungs and Heart are caused by persistent, long-term alcohol or drug use. Give up on Alcohol and Drugs and live up to your full potential in 2022.
Be kind to yourself
We all have high exceptions of ourselves and sometimes we end up making mistakes. But, this can lead to negative self-talk that can have a major impact on our well-being. According to Jim Kwik, a New York bestselling author – “If your brain is a supercomputer, then your self-talk is the operating system that runs it.” It is important to constantly evaluate how we are treating ourselves and re-structure our self-talk to improve our overall well-being.
Practice gratefulness
We all have something to be grateful for. Consider making a note of 5 things that you are grateful for at the start of your day. Gratefulness can help magnify and appreciate the good times in your life. And it can provide hope and help you heal during the difficult times.
Try Journaling
According to a study conducted in 2006, those that journaled regularly saw reduced symptoms of Depression and Anxiety. Journalling can help us express our feelings rather than bottle it up which can be un-healthy. Journalling can also help improve our mental clarity and promote self-growth.
Meditate
Meditation is a miracle pill for those wanting to reduce their stress and improve their focus. It can help tame what experts call the “Monkey Mind” – where the voices in the mind are loud and constantly chattering.
Taking care of yourself
Let 2022 be an year that you focus on being the best version of yourself physically. Avoid eating junk food or sugary liquids. Consume lots of water, fruits and green vegetables. Go to bed early and get a good night sleep. And work out at least 3 times a week. Workout does not necessarily mean hitting the gym. It can be any physical activity that you can have fun doing.
